NERC CIP Infrastructure Protection Supervisor

A Smarter Way to Analyze Your Business

Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)

Terms like smart grid and cybersecurity are getting a lot of attention these days. At their intersection is a body you may not have heard much about: the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, or NERC.

NERC is responsible for establishing security standards for the region’s power grid, which has become a potential target for cyber terrorism (NERC’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) plan). Power suppliers and generators had to proving compliance with all provisions of NERC by the end of the second quarter 2010.

NERC Security

NERC Security……an assessment that measures a power plant’s readiness for a government inspection.

NeuraMetrics™ has collaborated with several consultants and capital equipment suppliers to produce assessment products for the manufacturing market. One of these products measures a power plant relative to the NERC standard for Power Plant Security. This is a Web-based online assessment tool which is thoroughly configured for CIP Standards. The Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards require that critical cyber assets related to the reliable operation of power generation and transmission systems are identified and protected.
This comprehensive assessment is offered by NeuraMetrics™ and several consultants to help power plants meet the CIP standards. It is designed to help you identify, collect and document key control system parameters as well as assess and track both the plant and enterprise’s compliance.
Accessing with this tool allows plant management to conduct broad-based, but anonymous internal surveys throughout their organization to gain insight into the full range of security issues included in the CIP criteria. The tool includes a sophisticated set of data management and display options that allow management personnel to fully understand their strengths and weaknesses in CIP compliance, while tracking conformance across multiple units or the entire corporation.
The online analysis is available to plant management for periodic review and analysis to facilitate resource planning and support continued CIP compliance. Annual reassessment to document continuing system conformity is recommended. The reassessment tracks the progress of the compliance process.
